Many thanks to owner James Day for hosting this event and to Tom Harrier for promoting the competition. Because this was the first SLP meet held in Florida, each class winner actually set a new state record for their particular class. Beginning with the raw benchers, it was Brett Gilley for the win at junior/132 with a great 270. Double bodyweight benching raw! At 50-54 it was David Moriarty for the win with 225. Just a little "off" day for Dave. Francis Clark won at 55-59/220 with 320, followed with a successful fourth of 330. This was Francis' first competition. In the 60-64 age division it was George Walker for the win at 198 with 335. George's lovely wife, who looked more like his daughter, was on hand to cheer him on. Also at 60-64 was 275 winner Ernst Jacobsen, who finished with 235. For the open classes it was Chris Mcnichols for the win at 165 with an amazing 365, though just getting in his opening attempt. Still, thirty-five pounds over double bodyweight! Taking the win at 181 was Andrew Bonner, who also scored a double bodyweight bench with 405. In the assisted division Tom Harrier won at both the 50-54/275 and the police & fire division for that same age and bodyweight, with 510. Tom was also awarded the best lifter trophy for the benchers. For the curl competition, we finally had a good-looking lifter (our only lady lifter) in Jennifer Hieatt. With perfect form Jennifer "gutted out" her final attempt with 80, at submaster women/198. David Duncan won again at 50-54/220 with 160, while Bill Bradford got a big "pr" at 308 with 200! Ernst Jacobsen set the mark at 60-64/275 with 145, then a solid 160 fourth attempt. Big Anton Manske also hit the big 200, taking the win at open/308. Moving to the deadlift event it was David Duncan with 415 @ 50-54/220. At 60-64/220 we had a little mishap, when on his final attempt with 505, Larry Bucchioni tore his left bicep. Larry had just pulled a strong 475 before that. We wish Larry well as he recouperates his injury. Our final lifter was open/165 winner Chris Mcnichols, who finished with 475. Thanks to my sons Joey and D. C. Latch for doing a great job loading and spotting, to Mike Francis for helping with the lift-offs, Aniko Harrier for taking some great pictures, and to Caitlin Harrier for serving as our trophy girl. Hope to see you all again next year. Dr. Darrell Latch
