The Son Light Power Southwest Missouri Open Bench Press/Deadlift Championship was held May 1, 2010 at Anytime Fitness in Branson, Missouri. Thanks to owners Rich and Christina McDowell for hosting this event once again.                   In the raw bench press competition best lifter Shelly Antle broke the Missouri state record for the 40-44/114 class with 135. Robyn Tweedy won at 40-44/132 with her personal best 125. In the open division Heidi Sommer won at 123 with 105.                                   For the men it was Adam Lawler for the win at novice 198 with a new state record of 375. Taking second at 198 was Joel Negron, who finished with 310. Mark Cantu broke the record at 220 with his first official 400 while Nate Rice took the 275 class with 325.  In the men's teenage division Corbyn Arnold broke the state record at 13-15/242 with a strong 242. At 16-17 it was Chris Morgan for the win at 165 with 215. Austin Embrock broke the state record for the 198 class with 360. Our final teen lifter was Colby Lyons, who won at 16-17/220 with 330.                             Tyler Horner, who had the best form of any of the younger lifters, set the state record at junior/198 with 370. At submaster it was Brandon Cox for the win at 181 with a new state record of 340. Kiiler Stevens broke the state record at 198 with 420 while Rick Dirnberger won at 275 with 355.                                                          For the masters it was Melvin England with a new state record of 380 for the 40-44/220 class, along with Gene Bauer, who broke his own state record at 50-54/220 with 410. Floyd Ouderkirk set the state record at 60-64/181 with 320. Newcomer Daniel Stewart set the state record for the police & fire/submaster 220 class with 270.                                                                                                                 In the assisted division David Hughes broke the state record for the teenage men's 16-17/148 class with a new personal best 375! Joe Johannes broke the state record for the junior/198 class with his 420 fourth attempt. We had a great match-up in the submaster men's shw class between Gordon Castling and Randy Morris. In the end, Gordon came out on top 530 to 525, though Randy came back with a successful fourth state record of 545!                        But the "big show" was 40-44/275 winner Rich McDowell. Rich got his first official 700 bench on his third attempt, but came back just as strong with a successful fourth of 720. Both were new state records, giving Rich the best lifter award as well.              After his first attempt raw, Gene Bauer put on his shirt and hit a new state record 525 @ 50-54/220! Austin Webb had a great day, finishing with a new state record of 445 @ 55-59/308.                     In the open division there was a full class at 220. David Willis moved back down to that class for the win with a new state record of 635. Tiral Luke was second with a new pr of 610 followed by Chris Flick who got his first official 500 bench!        Another great lifter, who had a heck of a day was Joe Humbryd, who finished with a new personal best by eighty pounds, 625 @ 275!                                                                                                                 In the deadlift event Shelly Antle set her second state record of the day at 40-44/114 with a great 265 pull while Robyn Tweedy broke the state record for her class, 40-44/132 with 255. Nate Rice won his second title of the day at novice/275 with a new state record of 425. Corbyn Arnold actually locked out 480, but was called for hitching, settling with a solid 445 state record pull at 13-15/242. Chris Morgan hit 405 @ 16-17/165 while Austin Embrock won at 198 with 445. A great puller at 16-17/198, Colby Lyons, locked out 520 twice but was called for hitching both times. Colby finished with his opener of 500.                                    At 40-44/220 it was Mitch Gentry with a new pr and state record 605. Our best lifter, once again, was Bob Dale, who finished with a new pr and state record of 730 @ 40-44/275! Daniel Stewart set the mark at police & fire/submaster 220 with 425.                    Thanks to my son Joey Latch and to the others who helped load and spot and to Rachel Hilmer, who served as our trophy girl. *Lifetime Natural Powerlifting Society national record

The Lifetime Natural Powerlifting Society Nationals were held May 8, 2010 at Son Light Power Gym in Tuscola, Iliinois.               In the powerlifting event Janelle Allen broke all of her previous best lifts, moving up to the 16-17 age group, though staying at 132. Setting all new national LNPS records, Janelle finished with a 215 squat, 150 bench and a 275 deadlift for a great 640 total. Best lifter LeeLee Thompson also set all new national records as she moved up to the 148 class @ 18-19. LeeLee hit an all-time best 240 squat and 130 bench, to go with her 335 pull, for her first 700 total (705). Jan Dantzler also had a good day, with all new records at submaster/132. Having some problems getting started with her squats (115) and bench (95), Jan finished strong with a great 250 deadlift for a 460 total.                                                Spencer Tolson rounded out his lifting career at 13-15 with a great 1150 total. Spencer finished with a 405 squat, a 315 national record bench and a 430 pull to complete his total @ 275. Terry Cox had the best day of his lifting career @ 40-44/242. With all new national records, Terry finished with 350- 380- 420-1150. John Dougherty hit a strong 1300 total at 50-54/198 via 500 squat and deadlift, along with a 300 bench. Richard Carlson returned to the platform after knee surgery earlier this year for the win at 60-64/198. Setting new national records for the squat (375), bench (315) and total (1065), Rich also pulled a solid 375 deadlift to finish out the day. Our only open lifter was also our best lifter of the day among the men, Craig Richardson. Lifting raw, Craig finished with a solid 550 squat, a great 485 bench and a 575 pull for a great 1610 total!                                                                                 In the individual events Spencer Tolson set the national record at 13-15/275 with 405 while Terry Cox did the same at 40-44/242 with 350. For the bench press, Mike Head set the national mark at wheel chair/165 with his personal best 165, which was also new Iowa and Illinois state raw records as well. Brian Waller set the record for the novice/275 class with 315, while Spencer Tolson finished with that same lift for the record at 13-15/275. Kyle Bloyd broke the national record at 16-17/220 with 285. Ernest Mosley finished with 315 @ submaster/220. In the master 40-44 age group, Tony Hampton won at 220 with 335 while Terry Cox captured the record at 242 with 380. Best lifter Dave Leslie broke the national mark at 45-49/220 with 415, which also gave him the open title as well. Richard Carlson now owns the record at 60-64/198 with 315. Our final bencher was Phillip Bloyd, who won at open 242 with 335. All of the benchers in the competition, with the exception of Richard Carlson and John Dougherty, lifted raw! In the bench for reps competition, Dave Leslie set the mark at 220 with 21 reps. In the curl competition Brian Waller set the record at novice/275 with 160.                                                                        Moving to the deadlift event, newcomer Tyler Rohrer set the record for the 13-15/220 class with 285 while Spencer Tolson broke the record at 242 with 430. Eric Ziegler broke the record at 16-17/181 class with 330 while best lifter Ernest Mosley broke the record at submaster/220 with 475. Terry Cox got his last record at 40-44/242 with 420, finishing out a perfect 9 for 9 day of lifting! The team award went to The Dungeon from Danville, Illinois, coached by Keith and Molly "B" Tolson.                                   Thanks to my son Joey Latch and others who helped with the loading and spotting and to my side judges, Linda Middleton and Chuck Ferrell. The Son Light Power Platinum Fitness Open was held May 15, 2010 at Platinum Fitness in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Thanks to national and world master's bench press champion and Platinum Fitness owner Jim Parham for once again hosting this event.                     In the assisted bench press competition Melissa Powell set a new Oklahoma state record with her personal best 240 @ open/198. Luke Owens broke the state record at 220 with 430. Nick Dwinell won at 50-54/220 with 460 while Steve Trotman finished with 580 @ open/275. Weighing in at just 248, Steve, who has now lost almost 100 pounds in the past three years, was also awarded the best overall lifter trophy for the men. Moving to the raw lifters, we had four new lifters in the novice division. At 165 Eric Martray won with 275. Mike Martinovich broke the state record at 275 with 260. Our final novice lifter was Randy Scott who set the mark at shw with 410. Deven Hawkins won at 16-17/165 with 235 while at 18-19 it was Matt Turner with a new state record for the 181 class with 325. Brandon Walker got his state record at 242 with 395. Damyko Busby broke the state record for the junior/165 class with 315 while Jordan London got a new pr and state record at 181 with 365, his first double bodyweight bench in competition!                                                                                                 In the submaster division Bill Brown started things off with a new state record of 325 @ 165. Derrick Blackton won at 181 with 315, followed by Ronnie Thomas, who broke the record at 220 with 380. Our best lifter in the raw division went to Andrew Fitzpatrick, who finished with 470 @ 275. Not only was this a new pr for Andrew, but a new Oklahoma state record as well. At 45-49/275 it was Jeff Ribbens with a new state record of 285. At 50-54, Mark Knutson set the record at 181 with 265 while Paul Radmilovich won at 198 with 330. Casey Hamilton set the mark at police & fire/308 with 425. In the open division Geoff Ward broke the state record at 148 with 250 while Mike Farley did the same at 165 with 275. Our final open raw lifter was Randy Scott, who set the record at shw with 410.                                                                             In the curl competition Derrick Blackton won at submaster/181 with 165 while David Hoffman finished with 135 @ 242. Nick Dwinell hit a strong 190 final attempt at 50-54/220. Our oldest competitor of the day was Gary Flood, who won at 60-64/242 with 130. Marcus Owens won at police & fire/220 with 150. All of these lifters set new Oklahoma state record for their respective classes. For the deadlift competition Lexie Ashley broke the existing state record at 16-17/165 with her personal best 280. Andie Buff also got a new state record for her class, 16-17/181 with 225. But the best lifter award for the women went to their coach, Stephanie White, who broke the state record for the open/105 class with 210. Stephanie now holds the state record for the 105, 114 and 123 classes! Carter Miles set the state record for the novice/148 class with 315. Shawn French set the state record at 16-17/132 with 290 while Daniel Burns won at 181 with 325. At 18-19 it was Excetral Caldwell with a new state record of 450 @ 181. Matt Palmeri pulled that same 450 for the record at 198. At 220 it was Nick Carolla with 485.                                                                            Our best lifter among the men was Anthony Marquez. With near perfect form, Anthony won at junior/181, breaking his own existing state record by thirty pounds, to end up with 530! David Hoffman set the state record for the submaster/242 class with 450 while James Murphy did the same at 50-54/242 with 410. Gary Flood got his second state record of the day at 60-64/242 with a strong 415 pull. Our final lifter was Steve Trotman, who finished with 525 for the open/275 class.                                                             In attendance was future professional strongman, Aaron Brown, who helped with the bench press event. We wish Aaron luck in his upcoming competition to qualify for his pro card. Thanks to the staff from Platinum Fitness for helping with the loading and spotting duties and to my son Joey, who does it all. The Son Light Power Ho-Chunk Nation Open Bench Press/Deadlift Championship was held May 29, 2010 at the Wellness Center in Baraboo, Wisconsin. Thanks once again to the Ho-Chunk Nation for hosting this event and to Joe White Eagle for all of his promotional work.                                                   In the assisted bench press competition, newcomer Cassandra Anderson set the Wisconsin state record for the 13-15/114 class with 85. Training partner Jessica Laue broke the state record at 13-15/123 with 75. State record holder Dan Markey won at 18-19/220 with a strong 360. Our final assisted lifter was Terry Turner, who won at 55-59/275, finishing with a new state record of 380.                                                                                                         For the raw division it was Katie Kast for the win at 13-15/114 with a new state record of 75. Fred Kudos won at 16-17/198 with 240. In the master men's 45-49 age group, another first-timer, Ralph Kraft, set a new state record at 114 with 145. Best lifter Dave Leslie won at 220 with a strong 430. Allen Parness took the title at 65-69/181 with a new state record of 175.                                In the open raw division Brian Helgert broke the state record at 148 with a personal best 285. William Bacon won at 165 with 320 while Scott Grade broke the state record at 181 with 365. At 220 it was Randy Fry with 405 while Jon Schaitel battled it out with Erik Schlick for the title at 242. Jon took the win with 360 while Erik finished with a close 350. Dave Leslie also competed in the bench for reps competition, finishing with 20 reps @ 225!       Dave Leslie won his third title of the day at 45-49/220 with his winning curl of 150. Kevin Spirek finished second there with 150 as well. Don Tobias broke the state record for the 55-59/198 class with 130. Richard Lee, who grew up in Baraboo, moved down to the 70-74/148 class for the win and a new state record of 95. Our final curler was Jon Schaitel, who finished with a new state record of 140 @ open/242. Dave Leslie was awarded the best lifter trophy among the curlers.                                                              In the deadlift event Sammy Greco (The Quiet One), had a great day, winning at novice/165 with a personal best 415. Raymond Hood won at 13-15/308 with 340 while Richard Sadowski won at 55-59/275 with 490. In the open classes William Bacon won at 165 with 400 while Erik Schlick pulled the biggest weight of the day at 242 with 530. The best lifter award, however, went to Scott Grade, who pulled his first ever 500 deadlift for the win at 181. We also had two 2-man teams, both of which finished with new state records for their respective classes. At 50-54/242 it was Bob Hanson and Stuart Coogan, breaking their won state record by 25 pounds to finish with 925. Their final attempt with 1005 probably would have went, but the left collar gave way and the lift was over. At 70-74/165 it was Richard Lee and Allen Parness with 425.                                                                                               Thanks to my son Joey and Joe White Eagle for doing a great job loading and spotting and to my helpers Ms. Anderson and Julie Arneson for taking some great pictures and serving as our trophy girl.
