Thanks to the staff at the Spa for their continued support of this annual event. In the bench press competition it was first-time lifter Chris Franklin with a new Tennessee state raw record of 285 at novice 220. Lloyd Edwards, coming down from Anna, Illinois, broke the state record at police & fire/submaster/242 with his 520 second attempt. Joe Coll, state record-holder at 50-54/220, was nursing a pec injury,so had to settle with his raw opener of 330. In the open division Justin Stratton won at 165 with a strong 330, though he should be getting more out of his shirt. That's just too close to his raw lift! Mark Hathy seemed to have some problems with the low bench, finishing with just 275 @ 181. Nekia Slater, another good raw bencher, won at shw with 385. The best lifter award went to Lloyd Edwards. For the deadlift event it was Chris Franklin at junior men, taking the win at 220 with 480. Mark Hathy won again at 181 with 365. John Tabarlet came all the way up from Shreveport, Louisiana for the title at at 45-49 and open shw. John, who is a successful trainer with middle and high school athletes, finished with 375. For the open 198 class Kenny Garrett looked as strong as ever and with solid form pulled 700. A final attempt with a personal best 725 was much closer than it looked, failing just at the knees. Best lifter, Kenny! We also had one lifter in the curl competition, newcomer Keenan Hilson. With twenty-four inch biceps, Keenan successfully curled 225 for a new Tennessee state record at novice/275! Thanks to my son Joey and to Thomas Baker for doing a great job loading and spotting. Also to Lisa Williams-Truseby for her help promoting this event and serving as our trophy girl. See you all again December 6 for the SLP Christmas For Kids Bench Press/Deadlift Classic! Many thanks to them for doing such a great job! For the women we had Jennifer Rasmussen from Wisconsin, capturing three different titles, the novice, submaster and open at 132! Jennifer set the world marks at novice and submaster with her 150 final attempt. She also posted new Illinois state records for the novice and open classes. Also at novice was first-time lifter Teresa Nelson, who broke the national record at 165 with 105. This also exceeded the Illinois record as well. Marla McElroy broke her own national and Illinois state records at submaster 123 with a personal best 140. At a 122 bwt. this gave Marla the women's best lifter award for the day. In the open division Jason Dreksler got a new pr at 165 with 355, which was also broke the existing Illinois state raw record. In our final class, it was Brian Burton over Buddy Hull 485 to 460 at 242. Brian's 485 broke the Illinois state raw record there as well. It was great to have Ronnie Ogle and his wife Elizabeth, along with Brandon Griffin back in competition. It's been almost four years! Always good to see S.A.A.S. founder Mike Collet, who continues to spread the gospel against steroid use, and continues to train the younger athletes. This year Mike brought the team champions, consisting of himself, Brian Burton, Teresa Nelson, Jason Dreksler, Jim Dreksler and Jeremy Kinkade. At the awards program Buddy Hull was recognized for all he does for the sport of powerlifting, and for all the athletes he trains for the sport. Also present was H&B Gym owner from Centralia, Illinois, Steve Hutkowski. Steve has been a gym owner for more than twenty years, a national and world champion bench presser and the trainer of many national and world class lifters. We appreciate all that Steve does for the sport! Thanks to my trophy girl, Tonya Ward, who also took some awesome pictures during the meet. See you all again next year! Dr. Darrell Latch

This was a first for the gym there, but we had a great turnout with thirty-seven entries, which brought several new lifters to the sport. Thanks to the owner of Iron House Gym, Randy Denslow, for hosting this event and for the excellent job he did promoting the competition. Though most of the benchers were raw lifters, we did have three great shirt lifters, all of which set new Michigan state records for their respective classes! At 40-44/220 it was best overall lifter Dan Stebbins with a strong 530. Dan came close with his final attempt of 545, just missing his normal groove at the chest. Ray Zimmerman won with 415 at 45-49/275, finishing with a close fourth of 425. Our final assisted lifter was Indiana's own Dan Goble, who finished here with a solid state record 500 at 50-54/220. For the raw women's division it was Tera Kropf at submaster 165 with a great 195 state record! Taking the best lifter honors for the women, Tera's final with 205 was close as well. Not many ladies can boast a 200 raw bench! Also at submaster was 220 state record holder Tanya Overley. Tanya finished with 175, breaking her record by fifteen pounds. Moving to the the raw men, it was Josh Calderon, upping his own state record at 13-15/242 from 290 to 305. Newcomer Drew Gissendaner set the state mark at 13-15/308 with 180. For the junior men's division it was Scott Wilde taking the 220 class with a new state record of 370. This broke his previous state record by five pounds. Also at junior was 308 winner Scott Shattuck, who set the state record there with 415. In the submaster division it was Jeff Cory at 198, posting a new state record with his 345 final attempt. Todd Ward won at 220 with 210 while Mike Parks took the 275 class over Buddy Gainey 385 to 355. This was both Todd and Buddy's first competition. Oren Emmons has moved up to the 40-44 age group, setting the state record at 198 with 335. Eric Jones, a strong ADFPA raw lifter, won at both the 45-49 and police & fire 275 classes with a strong 425. His lift at master was a new Michigan state record. Carlton Strickland won at 50-54/198 with 275 while Timo Wiemero got a new personal best and Michigan state record at 50-54/220 with 290! Another first-time competitor, Wes VanDenburg, won at 55-59/220 with 275. In our men's 60-64 age group we had two fine lifters. Lifting in his first ever competition was sixty-one year old Dr. Pete LaRouech. An avid triathlon competitor, Pete now has a state record to his credit, finishing with 185 @ 181. Bob Moleski, state record-holder at 60-64/242, finished with 355. John Johnson broke his own state record at police & fire/50-54/198 with 225. In the open police & fire division it was Bryan Stanton with 385 @ 242 and A. J. Zwolensky with 465 @ 308. A. J.'s lift was not only a new state record, but also garnered him the best lifter honors for the men's raw division. For the open division Calvin Kalka had a great day, finishing with a new state record of 255 @ 132. Stephen Wiemero got a new pr at 165 with his 220 final attempt while Bob Leonard won at 198 with 375. Our shw winner was "Cheeseburger" William Darnell who finished with 325. In the deadlift event first-time lifter Beth Carpenter set the state record at novice women/242 with a personal best 260. In the novice men's division it was Colton Krumrie for the win at 198 with the biggest pull of the day. Colton's 530 set the mark there and also gave him the best lifter trophy for the competition. In the submaster division it was Buddy Gainey with a personal best and new state record of 415 at 275. Our final puller was 198 open winner Bob Leonard, who finished with 505. We had a great competition with several first-time lifters, as well as one of the top raw bench pressers in the country, Lee McRae! Many thanks to Rev. Ken Jordan for working so hard to promote this event, and the ladies of the church who provided some great food for the lifters. In the bench press competition, most of the lifters were raw, so a number of new state records were set. For the novice division it was Scott Smith tying the record at 220 with his final attempt of 300. Bob Lomax, who was lifting in his first competition, at the age of 65, won at 242 with 205. At teenage men 13-15/275 it was Jordan Lea with a new state mark of 225. Tyler Vaughters broke the state record at 16-17/198 with 260, the same weight Darren Mackey, Jr. made at 220, for the record there. Hunter Gillum broke the state record at 18-19/165 with a strong 285 while junior 132 winner Jon Lee got a new personal best and Arkansas state record with 245. Our biggest bencher of the day was Lee McRae, who simply blew each of his attempts away, finishing with a strong 550 state record fourth attempt! Do you realize that some of the top benchers, some benching over 800 can't do a raw bench of 550! Also at master was 65-69/242 winner Jim Turner, who finished with a new state record of 335. T. C. Lewis, a great 73 year old national and world champion and record-holder, got 270, and almost a new state record 280 at 70-74/181. For the police & fire division Kris Treadway won at 181 with 315 while Ronnie Land took the 220 class with 350. Chris Moore moved down to the 275 class, setting a new state record there with his 405 opener. Lee McRae was awarded the best lifter trophy for the meet. In the deadlift event Scott Smith won his second title of the day and set his second state record as well with his 450 final pull at novice 220. Tyler Stauch showed plenty of raw strength at 16-17/242, setting the state record there with 455. Hunter Gillum captured his second win of the day at 18-19/165 with a great 475 pull! Hunter actually locked out 500, but was called for hitching! Not bad, though, to pull triple-body weight in your first competition! Best lifter! In the junior division it was Jon Lee with another personal best and new state record at 132 with 375. Lifting as a guest lifter at 275 was Josh Griffin, who finished with a personal best 500. Our final puller was Ken Jordan, who ended with a new Arkansas state record at 65-69/220, finishing with 350. We also had a curl competition with three good lifters. At novice 220 it was Scott Smith once again, again setting a new state record with a 140 strict curl. Jeff Billman won at 45-49/220 with our biggest curl of 160; another record! Then a third record was set at 65-69/220 with Ken Jordan's 100. All three lifters showed great strict form! Thanks to those who spotted and loaded and to our special trophy girl, Audra Thomas. See you all again next year! Dr. Darrell Latch

Thanks to Randy Richey and the Omega Force Christian Strength Team and There 4 Ministry for their support and promotion of this event. In the raw bench press competition it was Heath Logsdon at wheel chair 132 with a new Kentucky state record of 215 and the win there. Darryl Gilbert, a new lifter to SLP, won at 16-17/165 with a new state record of 290. For the 18-19 age division it was Zach Ermel at 148 with 235 while Marc Barnett won at 242 with 315. Both were also new state records. Another new lifter, Jesse Bumpus, won at junior 181 with still another state record of 315. Chad Troutt got his state record at submaster 242 with 405 while Ronnie Holden did the same at 45-49/275 with 265. In the 70-74 age group it was Wayne Stinson at 181 with his state record 165 and Dale Radford with another state record of 205 at 198. Our final raw lifter was Steve Stepp, who won at open 242 with a solid 400. In the assisted division Lee Morgan set the state record for the wheel chair 220 class with a new personal best 275. Jon Kennedy won at novice 198 with 245 while James "Tater" Cook did the same at novice shw with his personal best 320. Terry Jackson got a new pr and Kentucky state record at 16-17/shw with 320. In the 275 class, Wade Wedeking won with a new personal best 330, just missing a final attempt with 355. Our only casualty was junior/181 lifter Cody Witcher, who failed with his opener of 435. At submaster Robert Boswell looked strong at 165 with a personal best 325, while Lenny Wolz, who usually lifts raw, got an easy 420 at 220. Moving to the master men's division, it was Randy Richey for the win at 45-49/308. Randy had a good day, making all of his lifts, but finishing with his best on a fourth with 640 for a new state record there. Butch Adams returned to competition, after some time off and a short stint as a professional wrestler, to capture the 60-64/shw title with a new Kentucky state record of 400! In the open division, another great lifter, one of the greatest ever, Dwayne Nealy, won at 198 with 650. This tied his own state record from 2002. Dwayne is just coming back after about a year off, but looked stronger with each lift. 700 would have gone, and I have no doubt that 800 will be in the near future for Dwayne. Also in the open division was 275 winner Joe Carter, who finished with his 535 opener. I don't suppose the seventy-five hour weeks he puts in has anything to do with that! The best lifter award for the bench went to Dwayne Nealy. In the deadlift event James "Tater" Cook finished his first competition with his second win at novice shw. Tater finished with a new state record and personal best 475. For the junior division it was newcomer Jesse Bumpus with a new state record of 535 @ 181! Joe Carter broke the state record at submaster 275 with 650, which also netted him the open 275 title. Our final lifter was open 165 and best lifter Wes Hemp, who broke his own state record by five pounds, pulling 515! Thanks to everyone who helped with this event and to our trophy girl Holly Greasy for helping with the awards. See you all next year! Dr. Darrell Latch
