I would also like to thank Scott Vickery, who is recovering from elbow surgery, for all he does for the sport and to Scott Stewart, for all the new young lifters he is introducing to the sport as well. Thanks to my son Joey Latch and Adam Fancher for doing another fantastic job of loading and spotting. With nearly 90 lifters the competition was complete in less than five hours. In the bench press competition the bar never touched any lifter's chest and there was not any miss-loads throughout the competition. That equates to less than a minute between attempts, another reason why Joey and Adam are the best in the sport at what they do. Thanks also to Rhonda Ritzler for taking some great pictures, Jeff Ritzler and Karisa Fonner for helping me at the table and to Eleni, Emily and Elizabeth Ritzler for serving as our trophy girls. Another great meet! See you all again next year. Dr. Darrell Latch

Dottke High School in West Allis, Wisconsin. Many thanks to Guy Powell for providing us with this facility and for all he did to promote this event. After 10 years of promoting and building this event at the state fair into the biggest event of its kind in the nation, the administration felt we had grown too large for their venue. With 125 lifters and 600-700 spectators, how can that be a bad thing? Just think of the money we were bringing to the fair. Politics! In the open division Brandon Procter broke the state record at 132, making just his opener of 200. Jonathan Musco, who also lifted in the assisted division, set the state record at 198 with 415. This also gave Jonathan the best lifter award for the raw men. Caleb Frakes won at 220 with 375 while Kevin Ballenger broke the state record at 275 with 410. It was a close one at 308 with Keith Caton taking the win over Mike Haile 460 to 455. In the deadlift competition Austin Taylor set the state record for the novice/275 class with 300. Thanks to owner Beth Starker for once again hosting this annual event. We had a great turnout of lifters including several new raw competitors. Starting with the raw women, Anna Bruner set the state record at 13-15/105 with 85. At 45-49 it was Tracy Nash with her state record of 115 at 132. Monique Carter won again this year at 148, setting the state record there at 190. Carla Happel, lifting in her first competition, finished second with 80. Our final raw lifter was Paula Wheeldon, who set the state record at 55-59/220 with 90. Monique Carter finished as our best lifter. Moving to the raw men in the novice division Anthony Ortiz broke the state record at 148 with 275. John Swann won at 198 with 325. At 220 it was Trevyn Maxwell, with his personal best 365. At 242 we had a battle between Jamie Wilson and Joey Cline. After the dust settled Jamie came out on top with a new state record of 480. Joey finished with 425. At 13-15/198 Stephen Wellman got his first official 300 bench. This is one of the most promising young lifters out there, so I expect a lot from him. That's why his first attempt at 300 was turned down. I wanted his first 300 pound bench to be good enough to get passed anywhere. And it was. I'm very proud of what Stephen has accomplished so far in his short career, still 15 years of age. At 16-17 Daniel Moorehead broke the state record at 165 with 265. Daniel Adams also got a new state record in his class, 181, finishing with 325. Second place at 181 went to Ian Fox who finished with 245. At 220 it was Justin McKee over Ryan Hammond, 290 to 150. Moving to the 18-19 division, Brian Boland broke the state record at 181 with 320. At 198 Jake Philpot won over Nick May on bodyweight, both finishing with 350. Both will also share state record for that class. At junior 132 Aaron Johnson broke the state record with 275. Michael Mohr won at 165 with 255. Then at 181 there was another battle between Buster Brown and Adam Griffin. Buster finished on top with 300 to Adam's 275. Luis Ruiz moved up to the 220 class, taking the win there with a new state record and personal best 395. Mark Munro finished a close second with 375. Our final lifter in the junior division was Kenneth Eldred, who broke the record at shw with 350. Troy Sheahan broke the state record at submaster/198 with his 390 final attempt. Scott Baker finished second at 198 with 315. Tim Walls took the 40-44/220 class with 335. At 45-49/220 Mark Rice won with 240. In the open men's raw competition, Tony Taylor won at 220 with 355. Our best lifter, James Walton, won at 242 with a new state record of 500. At 18-19/198 Nick May set the state record with 405. At 40-44 Robert Davis won at 165 with 335. Jeff West took the 220's with 420. Charles Steenburgen won at 275 with 405. Trace Conner had a good day at 45-49/198, finishing with 525. Kevin Piper won at 242 with 445. Dorran Vogler broke the state record at 65-69/181 with 260. For the 70-74 age group, Chuck Green broke the state record at 220 with 330. Tom Dunlap looked strong at 275, finishing with an easy 360 state record. In the open division Jeff Mustard was our only fatality, failing to get in his opener of 510 at 181. But the real show on this day was the lifting of Harley Timbs, bench press extraordinaire from Tennessee. Also an accomplished bodybuilder (having won the NPC Mr. Tennessee Bodybuilding Overall title in 2006), Harley is also ranked as one of the best bench pressers ever at 275. Opening with a solid 750, Harley's third attempt was 800. Under the scrutinizing eyes of three national and international judges, Harley locked out the weight with perfect form. The lift would have passed in any federation, without a doubt! Second place at 275 went o Jason Horn, who finished with 455. Our best lifter among the women was Eva Reece who finished with a new state record of 310 at 65-69/148! For the men it was Lucas Phillips with a new state record 455 @ novice/165. Jason Jones won at novice/275 with a solid 455 pull as well. Ryan Hammond won at 16-17/220 with 300 while Ryan Pedigo took the junior/242 class with 495. Joe Carter came up from Tennessee to break the Indiana state record at submaster/275 with his second attempt of 680. David Cunningham finished second to Joe with 500. Robert Davis won again at 40-44/165 with 455. At 45-49/275 it was Randy Naccarato with his opener of 560. In the open division it was Tony Taylor, who lifted as a guest lifter, pulling 475 at 220. Thanks once again to my son Joey Latch and Adam Fancher for doing a great job loading and spotting and to Karisa Fonner for helping at the table and taking some great pictures of the meet.
