Dottke High School in West Allis, Wisconsin. Thanks to principal Guy Powell for once again hosting this event and all the hard work he put into it. All of our benchers were raw, which is a rarity these days. At teenage women 16-17/132, first-time competitor Selina Amborn broke the state record with 70. Sheryll Bezio broke the record at 45-49/132 with 105. Out best lady lifter of the day was Maria Colletti, who broke the state record at open/148 with a strong 180. For the men it was Carl January with a new state record for his class, novice/181, where he finished with 285. George Medrek won at 13-15/181 with 125. In the junior men's division Wayne Thomas hit a pr 335 for the win there. Then at shw Alex Stonehouse set the state record with 460. Jeffery Wooldridge won at 50-54/220 with 360 while Scott Hammond took the 308's with 405. Kevin Dietrich broke the state record at 55-549/148 with 260 while George Larson, who hadn't competed since 2005, broke the state record at police & fire/45-49/220 with 360. In the open division Wayne Thomas scored his second victory of the day with his win at 198. Randy Fry did the same, capturing the submaster and open/220 classes with new state records of 465 along the way. Randy was also awarded the best lifter trophy for the men. We had two competitors in the bench for reps category, Carl January and Kevin Dietrich. Lifting in the novice division, Carl finished with 24 reps at 165. Kevin, lifting in the 55-59/148 class, set the state record for the 140 class with 29 reps! Moving to the deadlift competition, Heather Wesenberg set the state record for the novice women/123 class with 265. George Medrek won again at 13-15/181 with a solid 215 pull. Wayne Thomas won at junior/198 with his personal best 515. Wayne also won at open/198. Cameron Gonring, one of the infamous "Bash Brothers", broke the state record at 242 with 655, a thirty pound pr for him! David Langer, one of the original "Bash Brothers", won at 275 with 625. Chris Tibbals pulled a strong 500 for the win at 50-54/242. Best lifter Tom Glembin looked strong as he pulled his 630 state record second attempt, missing his final with 650 by simply pulling forward out of his groove. Nearing the age of sixty, Tom is still one of the greatest master pullers in the world! Richard Sadowski won at 60-64/242 with 460, just twenty pounds shy of his own state record there. In the open division Brian Helgert, in just his third deadlift competition, broke the state record at 148 with 435. Brendon Gonring, the final original "Bash Brother", won at 220 with an easy 565. In the two man event Alex Dellis and Ryan Lepkowski set the state record at 18-19/165 with 900, coming halfway up with 1005! Thanks to my son Joey for all he does and to Guy Powell for loading and spotting. And to my side judges Brian Helgert and Bob Vivier for doing a great job as well. Thanks also to Selina Amborn for her help at the table and to our trophy girl, powerlifting legend Michelle VanDusan. With twenty-eight competitors, this represents a drop of nearly one hundred competitors of two years ago, when we were forced out of the Wisconsin State Fair. I had worked for nearly ten years to build that meet up to be the largest of its kind in the nation then dismissed through the politics of the special events director. Claiming we took too long for the competition, we ran the meet, compete with awards and loaded and ready to go in less than six hours. I challenge anyone, anywhere to match that! Now the fair event, that which I worked so hard to build, that which the fair should have used as a major event, is run by the same people who I had been asked to replace from the beginning. Go figure! Dr. Darrell Latch
