Joe had appeared on local television while Anna did a local morning radio show the week before the meet. So we had a good turnout with thirty-seven entries. In the raw bench press division we had several good lady lifters, most of which were competing for the first time. One of those was novice 165 winner Megan Brindley, who finished with 90. Ivy Ingram won at junior 114 with a strong 120 state record. Weighing in at just 110, Ivy also won the best lifter award for the women. Erika Blauvelt set the state record at submaster 148 with 85 while Mary Leach did the same at 50-54/165 with 100. Jean Dougherty, state record-holder at 60-64/123, dropped down to 114 for the win an a new pr and state record of 90. Tricia Baker took the police & fire/165 class with her state record 120. Our final lifter was open 165 winner Anna Tabit, who finished with 125, breaking her old state record by fifteen pounds! For the men's raw division it was Chris Thomas at 13-15/132 with a new state record of 165. Mike Baker won at 148 with 200 while Corey Ford upped his state record at 242 with his 245 final attempt. Shay Laager, who was celebrating his sixteenth birthday on this day, broke the state record at 16-17/165 with 250. Sam Andel won at 181 with 185 while Luke Von Behren captured the title at 198 with 225. Also in the 16-17 age group, but lifting as a 165 novice was Cody Mundy, who finished with 200. At 18-19 Joshua Kugler won at 181 with 215 while Kyle Stewart was the winner at 220 with 305. Robert Kern took the 40-44/242 class with a new state record of 320. For the 45-49 age group Brad Ingram, another state record-holder at 220, upped his record to 340 while Dave Baker set the mark at 275 with 380. Larry Smith set the state record at police & fire/50-54/198 with 225 while lifting in his first meet. Our final lifter was 220 open competitor Cory Wingerter, who failed to get in a lift due to some elbow problems. In the assisted bench division Big Greg Butler failed as well with his opener of 525, lifting in the junior 220 class. Once Greg gets used to his shirt he will hit over 600! At 40-44/220 it was Joe Tabit with a new personal best 375 while Richard Carlson struggled with his shirt and a lower bodyweight, finishing with his 265 opener. Our best lifter, Jerome White won at 198 open with a 355 pr. In the deadlift event Jodelle Wallace broke the 300 barrier for the first time, breaking the state record again at junior women 132. Mary Leach failed to show for her opener, so we move to the teenage men's division. At 13-15 it was T. J. Martin with a new state record of 205 while Andrew Williams did the same at 105 with 235. Chris Thomas won his second title of the day at 132 with 245. Mike Baker won at 148 with 290 while Jake Bennett took the 181's with 335. The best lifter for the deadlift meet was Tyler Holland, winner at 16-17/165, who pulled a strong 445, breaking his state record there by five pounds. At 40-44/198 it was Jamie Higdon with 405 while Robert Kern won at 242 with 450. Dave Baker made it two in a row at 45-49/275 with 475 while Cory Wingerter won at open 220 with 460. Thanks to owner Dr. Jim Turner for hosting this event and to Daryl and Ashley Legg for all the work they did to promote this competition. In the women's division it was Stormi Wilkins for the win at novice 132, finishing with a new national mark of 105. In the 40-44 age group Susan Darrow won at 132 with a meet-high 155 national mark, then returned for a fourth with a shirt for a solid 190. Brenda Cole won at 40-44/181 with her 120 national record. Susan Darrow won the best lifter award for the ladies. Moving to the men, Chris Moore set the national mark at novice 242 with 415, making just his opener. In the teenage men's 13-15 age group we had five great lifters. For the 114 class it was Travis Hillsberry with a new national record of 145. Reid Rodich won at 132 with 155 while Everett Page won over Chris Ashwood, Jr. by bodyweight, both finishing with 175 @ 148. Jake Linneberry set the new mark at 165 with a personal best 230. At 16-17 it was Colton Shaw with a new national record of 205 @ 148. Kyle Jordan won at 165 with 245 while Anthony Brower won over Chris Dodson at 181, 250 to 210. Anthony's 250 was a new national record for the class. Darren Mackey, Jr. broke the national mark at 220 with a personal best 265 while Cody Hankins did the same at 242 with 270. Our final teenage lifter was 18-19/165 winner Nick Gard. Nick not only set the national raw mark with 300, he also won the best lifter award for the teenage men. In the junior division both lifters posted new national records for their respective classes. Cody Trammell hit 265 @ 148 while Jacob McCleod finished with 300 @ 181. Daryl Legg looked strong at submaster 220, just missing a national record 405 final attempt, then settling with 365. Brett Jordan won at 40-44/165 with 315 while Shawn Gard set the mark at 220 with 385. Tommy Jackson took the 45-49/181 class with 275 while Roger Rodich set the record at 198 with 330. Moving to the 65-69/242 class it was forever young Jim Turner, winning still another national title with a new national mark of 345, erasing the old record by 75 pounds! At police & fire it was Jimmie Barker with 355 @ 220 while Kenneth Harris won at 275 with 425. Both lifters captured new national records. In the open division it was Johnny Drummond at 181 with 215 while Chris Moore captured his second title of the day at 242 with 415. Kenneth Harris was awarded the best lifter trophy for the men. We also had an assisted division with some fine lifters. At 18-19/242 there wasJeremy Lalli with 335. At submaster there was Kevin Loudermilk, who finished with 565, though he handled 625 with a new shirt @ 242. Our biggest lift of the day came from Donnie Gragg, who finished with a personal best and open national record of 600 @ 275! Sammy Smith also got a new national record for his class, 40-44/198. Sammy finished with a personal best 480. Jim Parham, owner of Platinum Fitness, the number one facility in Tulsa, set a new national mark at 60-64/220 with 405. Our final competitor was Steven Trotman, who won at 275 open with 540. After the bench competition we were treated to a great exhibition by professional bench presser, Jason Jackson. Jason has benched 804 in competition, lifting as a 242 master! Jason handled 500 and 525 raw like it was nothing! Great to have him with us. In the deadlift competition Carl Jones had a great day, winning both the novice and police & fire/220 classes with 470. Darren Mackey, Jr. made it two in a row at 16-17/220 with his personal best 405. Our best lifter was 18-19/165 puller Nick Gard, who finished with 500. Robert Fingerhut got the win at junior 181 with 360 while Tommy Jackson won again at 45-49/181 with 450. Also at master was 55-59/148 winner Joshua Kosarek, who finished with 325. For the open division it was Johnny Drummond with a personal best 415 and Barry Dotson with the biggest pull of the day of 570 @ 220. Then at 275 Steven Trotman tied the record there with 550. All of the above-mentioned lifters set new national raw records for their respective classes. We also had two 2-man teams pulling. First at 18-19/181 Jonathan Shelley and Nick Gard broke the national record there with 900. Our second team of Bobby Brown and Blake Sanders won at open 220 with 800. A special thanks to Jennifer Rasmussen, who served as the meet director and who did a great job of promoting this event. In the women's bench press competition, newcomer Tara Dean won at 18-19/132 with a new state record of 95. Jennifer Rasmussen won at both submaster and open 132 with 145. Another first-time competitor, Joann Calderone, set the state mark at 40-44/181 with 95. The best lifter among the ladies was 45-49/148 Jane McCubbin, who finished with 185. Jane holds the state record there with 190. Our final lady lifter was Peggy Meyer-Miller, who won at open 148 with a new state record of 165. For the 13-15 teenage men it was Steve Lubke at 114 with a new state record of 85. Bryce Backus won at 132 with 105 while Ryan Naughton set the state mark at 148 with 185. Mitchell Erickson won at 165 with 155 along with 181 winner Tyler Hiserman, who also scored a state record with his 185 final attempt. At 16-17 it was Sterling Backus at 132 with 135. Mike Mundilius won at 148 with 215 while Mike Apolinario won at 165 with 225 and Cain Trunkel took the 181's with 185. Sterling, Mike Apolinario and Cain all set new state records for their respective classes. Our final teenager, Sean Naughton, won at 18-19/165 with another state record of 225. All of these young lifters lifted "raw", with good form! Our best teenage lifter was Mike Apolinario. At novice men it was ten year old Joey Hunjas with a new state record of 135 for the 114 class. Logan Grap won at 165 with 185 while Noe Trijillo finished with 235 @ 181. Both scored new state records as well. Hector Gomez won at junior 165 with 270. Todd Miller won at submaster 148 with 250 while Robert Hamm took the honors at 220 with 325. |
